So, you deal out the entire deck as you would in War, not looking at the cards. The first player lays down a card face-up, and the next player, and so on, until someone lays down a face card. At that point you try to beat it with another face card, and the number of chances to beat it depends on the card--jacks get one, queens two, kings three, and aces four. Any face card beats any face card, as long as it comes up in the allotted chances. The point is to get the whole deck, and when the face card can't be beaten the player who laid it down takes the pile.

Simple enough... now the fun part.

If two of the same card come up--two fives, for instance--you slap it and win the pile. You have to play with doubles but there are a million other things to slap--sandwiches (such as a three, a five, and a three), tens (when two cards add up to ten, like an eight and a two), and if you're pervy, sixes and nines, and if you're geeky, three-one-four sequences. Anyway you can make up any number of slap rules, as long as you have the reflexes.
